Frazier Added to Lott Trophy Watch List
PROVO, Utah -- BYU senior linebacker Jameson Frazier has been added to the 2011 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List.
Named after Pro Football Hall of Fame member Ronnie Lott, The Lott Trophy is awarded to college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year for excellent performance both on and off the field.
A 6-foot-2, 225-pound outside linebacker, Frazier started his career as a walk-on before earning a starting role in 2010 while helping the BYU defense finish the year ranked No. 24 in the nation. Frazier contributed 34 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three quarterback hurries and two interceptions last season despite missing three games due to injury. He was recently selected by his teammates to serve as a team captain for the 2011 season.
An English major with a minor in French, Frazier has been named to the All-Mountain West Conference Academic Team twice and speaks four languages—French, Spanish, Haitian Creole and English. He served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Montreal, Canada.
Founded in 2004 by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, The Lott Trophy is the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player. This is the eighth year the IMPACT Foundation has recognized student-athletes throughout the nation who have the biggest IMPACT on their teams both on and off the field. IMPACT is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity—characteristics Lott exhibited throughout his Hall of Fame career at both USC and in the National Football League.
Voters for the award include selected members of the national media, previous finalists, the Board of Directors of the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, distinguished former college coaches and players and the IMPACT Board of Advisers. To date, the Foundation has donated more than $850,000 to various charities throughout the country. The eighth annual Lott Trophy dinner will be held December 11th at The Pacific Club in Newport Beach, California. For more information on The Lott Trophy visit: www.LottImpactTrophy.com.
Frazier replaces Florida defensive back Janois Jenkins, who was dismissed from his team last month.
