PROVO, Utah -- The BYU football team wrapped up its last practice before the Blue/White game.

On Saturday, April 9, the Cougars will host a Kids Clinic at LaVell Edwards Stadium 11 a.m. before playing the Spring Game at noon. Fans are encouraged to attend and no admission will be charged.

On Friday, the team practiced under cloudy conditions, closing out what has been what BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall called "certainly the most injury-free spring" of his career.

Sophomore quarterback Jake Heaps threw 6-of-9 passes for 85 yards while junior Riley Nelson went 2-for-4 for 14 yards and junior James Lark was 2-of-4 for 11 yards.

In the Cougars' first round of 11-on-11, the defense held strong, highlighted by a fumble recovery by junior Ezekiel Ansah and a sack by Kyle Van Noy after the sophomore came around the end in a wink to draw the whistle.

Heaps advanced the offense down field in the second 11-on-11 segment thanks in large part to a 43-yard heave to freshman Ross Apo on third down.

Despite completing another 10-yard pass to freshman Drew Phillips to put the offense inside the blue zone, junior defensive lineman Garrett Eskelsen got to Heaps for the whistle sack. Sophomore kicker Justin Sorensen ended the drive with a 32-yard field goal.

Lark finished out the practice on a blue zone drill, completing a pass to junior Dalin Tollestrup for nine yards before Sorensen kicked another field goal, this time from 22 yards.
