PROVO, Utah -- BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall today announced that quarterback Taysom Hill out of Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho, has signed a scholarship agreement to enroll at BYU in January 2012.

“We are excited that Taysom has decided to come to BYU,” Mendenhall said. “He is a fantastic football player and an outstanding individual, and we look forward to having him join our program in January.”

A 6-foot-2, 210-pound quarterback, Hill was the 5A All-Idaho Player of the Year and Idaho Gatorade High School Player of the Year as a senior after quarterbacking Highland to the 2008 state title. Listed as the top high school recruit in Idaho in 2009 by Rivals.com, Hill completed 166-of-258 passes (64.3 percent) and threw for 2,269 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior while also rushing for 1,491 yards and 24 touchdowns. An outstanding athlete listed with a 4.5 40-yard dash, he averaged 10.2 yards per carry and 124.3 rushing yards per game while setting school records for single season and career total offense.

“Taysom is an outstanding quarterback,” BYU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Brandon Doman said. “He will be a great future asset to our program. I’m excited Taysom has chosen to come to BYU.”

Hill is expected to enroll at BYU in January after returning in December from a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sydney, Australia.
