PROVO -- The 2010 BYU football season kicks off today at 5 p.m. at LaVell Edwards Stadium as the Cougars host the University of Washington coached by former BYU quarterback Steve Sarkisian.

Sarkisian’s return is among the many items that fans should note on this opening Saturday at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

BYU will recognize eight former Cougar All-American quarterbacks at halftime of today’s game. In addition to Sarkisian, former greats Virgil Carter, Gifford Nielsen, Marc Wilson, Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Robbie Bosco and Ty Detmer will also be on hand to be honored during a special halftime ceremony.

Prior to the game, McMahon will be the alumni flag bearer to help bring the team out of the tunnel, and Carter will be today’s honored Y-Lighter.

The game is sold out, marking the 19th consecutive sell out at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Those traveling to attend today’s game should be aware that the Utah Department of Transportation is encouraging all fans coming from the north to leave their homes earlier than normal due to the I-15 construction.

Another reason to come early is to enjoy the hour-long CBS College Sports pregame show broadcast live from inside the stadium. CBS C will also host live halftime and postgame shows from LaVell Edwards Stadium in addition to its regular telecast of the game.
