PROVO -- BYU finished up the 2010 edition of fall camp, giving the younger players a chance to show themselves during a scrimmage on Wednesday.

The Cougars scored three times on six drives, including both blue zone possessions.

"We're certainly not game-ready with some of the younger players," said BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall. "But our intent today was to try and make some final redshirt candidate decisions and consider who might fill in a possible special team here and there. Our coaches will meet with our younger personnel today and be really clear on where they stand."

In the blue zone, junior Bryan Kariya scored on the final of four rushes and freshman quarterback Jake Heaps hit sophomore Rhen Brown deep for a 33-yard touchdown on the drill's two possessions. Following Brown's touchdown, junior Matt Marshall took the snap on the extra point and ran in for a two-point conversion.

In a drive highlighted by a 24-yard, one-handed catch by Marcus Mathews from junior quarterback Riley Nelson, freshman Drew Phillips saw his first live action of the fall, rushing five times and catching one pass for 11 yards.

After the second of two sacks of the drive by sophomore Connell Hess, sophomore Brandon Ogletree intercepted a Nelson pass inside the blue zone.

Nelson threw 4-of-5 passes for 55 yards and ran once for six yards.

On the final drive of the scrimmage, Heaps threw eight-straight completions for 81 total yards, capped by a 19-yard touchdown to freshman Ross Apo. The drive was led by freshman Joshua Quezada who rushed once for five yards while catching five passes for 47 yards.
