PROVO -- BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall today announced that Cerritos Junior College cornerback DeQuan Everett has signed a scholarship agreement to enroll at BYU and will join the team this fall.

“We are excited to have DeQuan join our program,” Mendenhall said. “He is not only a talented player with the skills and abilities to help us continue to improve but also a quality young man who is excited to come to BYU.”

A 6-foot-2, 195-pound native of Long Beach, Calif., Everett has the tools to contribute at several positions in the secondary. A tall defender and physical hitter, he also runs well with a 40-yard dash of 4.42 seconds.

As a sophomore in 2009, Everett totaled 18 tackles, four pass breakups, one interception and one fumble recovery while helping his team to a 9-2 record. He played his freshman season at Orange Coast College, appearing in seven games with nine tackles, three pass breakups and one interception.

He was a three-year letter winner in both football and track at Long Beach Wilson High School where he was twice voted the team’s Defensive Back of the Year. He posted 52 tackles and one interception his senior year and totaled 73 takedowns and three picks as a junior.

Everett comes to BYU as a junior with three years to complete his two remaining seasons of eligibility.
