TODAY’S UNIFORM

As part of honoring the 25-year anniversary of BYU’s National Championship this season, BYU is wearing royal blue uniforms in today’s final home game in tribute to the 1984 team. The uniforms will only be worn for today’s final home game. The uniforms worn in today’s game will later be available for purchase via auction on BYUCougars.com to help fund athletics scholarships.

AFCA COACHES TROPHY PRESENTATION

Hall of Fame coach LaVell Edwards and members of the 1984 team will be honored at halftime of today’s game with the presentation of the AFCA Coaches National Championship Trophy. The Coaches Trophy has been awarded to the UPI or USA Today Coaches Poll winner since 1986 and to the BCS Champion since 1998.

Not in existence when BYU won its national championship in 1984, the current Coaches Trophy will be presented today as part of honoring the 25-year anniversary of BYU’s 13-0 team. By the end of this season, all coaches’ poll national champions prior to 1986 will have received the current AFCA Coaches National Championship Trophy.

The Trophy, which also travels the country each week of the season and was in Provo during BYU’s TCU game this season, has a Waterford crystal on top of an ebony base. It stands 34 inches tall and weighs 45 pounds.

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and BYU president in 1984, and Glen Tuckett, BYU Athletics Director in 1984, will make the trophy presentation.
