BYU Debuts at No. 16 in BCS Standings

PROVO -- BYU debuted at No. 16 in the first BCS Standings released Sunday. The Cougars are one of three Mountain West Conference schools in the top 20 along with No. 8 TCU and No. 18 Utah.

BYU is also ranked No. 16 in the latest release of the major polls. The Cougars moved up two spots in The Associated Press Top 25 and three positions in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll. BYU is ranked No. 16 in the Harris Interactive Poll.

The Cougars have been ranked in the weekly polls 29 straight times since last entering the Top 25 on Nov. 18, 2007. BYU’s consecutive stay in the national rankings is its longest since the 1989-91 seasons.

Florida is the top rated team in the BCS Standings but the Gators dropped to No. 2 in the AP rankings with Alabama claiming the top spot. The Gators are still considered the top team in the coaches’ poll and Harris rankings with Alabama at No. 2. Texas, Boise State and Cincinnati round out the top five in the BCS Standings, followed by Iowa, USC, TCU, LSU and Miami.

BYU is now 154-45 when ranked in the Top 25 and has won 23 of its last 27 games as a ranked team, dating back to 2006.

The No. 16 Cougars (6-1, 3-0 MWC) host unbeaten and No. 8 TCU (6-0, 2-0 MWC) at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday in a 5:30 p.m. MT matchup being broadcast nationally on VERSUS.

ESPN’s popular College Football GameDay television and radio programs will also originate their broadcasts live from BYU’s campus on Saturday.

ESPN College GameDay Built by The Home Depot will begin broadcasting live on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET/8 a.m. MT. College GameDay host Chris Fowler will be joined by ESPN analysts Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard for the live television broadcast.

College GameDay on ESPN Radio will begin broadcasting from BYU at noon ET/10 a.m. MT as Ryen Russillo, Trevor Matich and Brad Edwards cover the college football scene.
