PROVO -- For the third time in four weeks, BYU tight end Dennis Pitta has been recognized as a performer of the week by the College Football Performance Awards. The senior from Moorpark, Calif., received an honorable mention award for his performance against Colorado State on Saturday, Sept. 26. Pitta caught five passes for 59 yards and his first touchdown of the year.

On the season, Pitta leads BYU with 21 catches for 256 yards, an average of 12.2 yards per reception. He currently leads all tight ends nationally in total receptions (21) and total yards (256). He is second in yards per game (64), receptions per game (5.25) and yards per catch (12.19).

Two other Cougars also received recognition by the CFPA. Freshman punter Riley Stephenson of St. George, Utah, was recognized as the punter performer of the week for his efforts versus the Rams. Riley had four punts for 204 yards, an average of 51 yards per kick. Joining Pitta and Stephenson was running back Harvey Unga, who was named honorable mention running back. The junior from Provo, Utah, had 22 carries for 113 yards and three touchdowns against CSU.

The College Football Performance Awards eliminates the bias in the college football selection process by awarding recipients exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
