PROVO -- For the second time in three weeks, BYU tight end Dennis Pitta has been recognized as a performer of the week by the College Football Performance Awards. On Sept. 7, Pitta was named Tight End Performer of the Week following BYU’s 14-13 victory over Oklahoma.

The senior from Moorpark, Calif., was once again honored in week three of the season, this time as honorable mention. Pitta caught five passes for 60 yards in a loss to Florida State on Sept. 19.

On the season, Pitta leads BYU with 16 catches for 197 yards, an average of 12.3 yards per reception. He currently leads all tight ends nationally in total receptions (16), receptions per game (5.3), total yards (197) and yards per game (66).

The College Football Performance Awards eliminates the bias in the college football selection process by awarding recipients exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

In addition to Pitta, quarterback Max Hall is a preseason favorite for two College Football Performance Awards — overall performer of the year and the quarterback trophy.
