Hall Named Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week

NEW HAVEN -- The Walter Camp Football Foundation announced today that BYU senior quarterback Max Hall was named its first 2009 Bowl Subdivision National Offensive Player of the Week for games ending Sept. 5.

Hall completed 26-of-38 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns as No. 20 BYU upset third-ranked Oklahoma, 14-13, on Saturday. Trailing 13-7 with 11:41 to play in the game, Hall led BYU on a 16-play, 78-yard drive that resulted in a 7-yard touchdown pass to McKay Jacobson to tie the game with 3:03 remaining. Mitch Payne’s extra point gave BYU the lead for good at 14-13.

“I’m honored to receive this recognition, but it really is a team award,” said Hall, who is on the watch list for the Walter Camp National Player of the Year Award. “We have a lot of talent on this team and the coaches put together a great game plan for Oklahoma. This award is a result of a great team effort.”

On the game-winning drive, Hall completed 9-of-11 passes for 74 yards, including a 23-yard pass to tight end Dennis Pitta on fourth-and-four from the Oklahoma 29-yard line. Overall, seven Cougars caught passes from Hall, with six of the seven catching at least three balls. The victory marks the first time BYU has defeated a top-10 team since the Cougars downed No. 1 Miami, 28-21, on Sept. 8, 1990.

Hall’s 329 yards through the air gives him 7,805 career yards and moves him ahead of Kevin Feterik (1996-99) into sixth place all time at BYU.

This is the second-time in Hall's career that he has been named Walter Camp National Player of the Week. The previous honor came following the Cougars 59-0 defeat of UCLA on Sept. 13, 2008.

The Walter Camp Football Foundation — named after Walter Camp “the father of American football — was founded in 1967 to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team. Camp first selected an All-America team in 1889.

This is the sixth year the Walter Camp Football Foundation has honored one offensive and one defensive player each week as its national Bowl Subdivision player of the week. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
