PROVO -- The BYU defense successfully stopped all scoring attempts on Thursday as the team donned full pads for the first time during fall camp.

Starting on his own three-yard line during the first session of team drills, quarterback Max Hall found Bryan Kariya for an eight-yard gain to start the drive. After off-side penalties on both the offense and defense, Hall went 4-for-4 on passes to McKay Jacobson, Dennis Pitta, Luke Ashworth and O'Neill Chambers.

The defense forced an early three-and-out on the second drive as running back Malosi Te'o had two carries and and senior Brenden Gaskins found newcomer Mitch Mathews for six-yards.

When 11-on-11 drills continued towards the end of practice, the defense again refused a first-down, with pass breakups from Matt Bauman and Corby Eason.

Hall and the first-team offense got back on track for the final drive of the day, as the senior completed five consecutive passes for 52 yards, including two to sophomore Bryan Kariya. Kariya caught four passes on the day for 25 yards.

Unable to get the first-down in the blue zone, Mitch Payne lined up to kick a 26-yard field goal. The scoreless day continued, however, as sophomore Matt Putnam reached up for the block.

Hall finished the day 15-for-17 for 98 yards.

Practice will resume on Friday, the first day of two-a-days. Practice times are set for 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Both session are open to the public and will be held on the team practice field, which is located just north of the Student Athlete Building. Fans are reminded that the use of video or camera equipment, including cell phone cameras, is not permitted during practice sessions.
