Peterson, Engemann Headline Cougar Scrimmage
PROVO, Utah -- Junior running back Paul Peterson and sophomore quarterback Bret Engemann combined for 447 yards during the Cougars' second, 100-play scrimmage of the Spring season on Friday. Engemann led all quarterbacks, recording three touchdown completions on 12-of-20 attempts for 224 yards.
Peterson, a 5-9, 200-pound running back reeled in four receptions for 126 yards, scoring two touchdowns. Peterson also chalked up 97 yards on the ground, including a 79-yard touchdown run mid-way through the scrimmage.
"I feel good about our effort today," BYU head coach LaVell Edwards said. "Our offense is getting better every day and we're doing the things we need to do to improve our pass protection."
Junior quarterback Charlie Peterson completed 10-of-17 for 146 yards, including one touchdown and one interception. Junior Brandon Doman tallied 144 yards on 12-of-19 passing. Doman also completed one touchdown.
All-America candidate Owen Pochman attempted two field goals from 48 yards, connecting on both attempts during Friday's scrimmage at Cougar Stadium. The senior place kicker is a perfect 5-for-5 during spring practice, including four straight from 48 yards.
