Edwards' Earn All-American Football Foundation Achievement Awards

LAS -- BYU head football coach LaVell Edwards has been awarded the Johnny Vaught Head Coach Lifetime Achievement Award by the All-American Football Foundation. The honor was bestowed upon Edwards in the organization's 22nd-annual banquet at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas on Thursday, Dec. 16. His wife of over 45 years, Patti, was also honored, receiving the All-American Football Foundation's First-Lady of Football Award for her many years of support, service and dedication to college football.

Since his days as a player-coach in the Army at Fort Meade, Md., in the 50s, to his impressive 28-year stint as the head coach at BYU, Edwards has coached for the game of football for over 45 years. Edwards won the National Championship in 1984 and has posted over 250 wins in his 28 season at BYU and just wrapped up his 20th conference title with this year's 8-3 Cougars. Edwards has led 22 different teams to post-season bowl appearances, including a 1999 invitation to play 11th-ranked Marshall (12-0) in the Motor City Bowl on Dec. 27 in Detroit, Mich.
