2023 Alumni Game rosters announced with Detmer, Beck set to lead Team Royal and Team Navy
PROVO, Utah — Cougar fans will join the football alums in getting an early glimpse of the 2023 BYU football team on Alumni Day. Head coach Kalani Sitake's 2023 team will scrimmage for fans prior to the Alumni Game as part of the squad's 15 spring practices taking place in preparation for the program's first season this fall in the Big 12 Conference. Gates at LaVell Edwards Stadium will open at 2 p.m. Both events are free to the public and will be broadcast live on BYUtv, with the scrimmage also available on ESPN+.
BYU football has announced the rosters for 2023 Alumni Game taking place as part of the day's festivities on Friday, March 31.
Led by alumni quarterback captains Ty Detmer and John Beck, more than 60 former players are set to take the field again at LaVell Edwards Stadium in the Team Royal vs. Team Navy showdown. Many other football alumni, including current NFL players, will also be on the sidelines to enjoy the event and lend their support to those playing in the game.
Detmer will team up with Max Hall and Matt Berry to quarterback Team Royal, while Beck is joined by Brandon Doman to lead Team Navy. Hall and Doman are back once again for this year's game after the two former stars combined to quarterback the winning side a year ago.
Last year's Alumni Game ended in dramatic fashion as fans witnessed Cougar greats of the past back in LaVell Edwards Stadium for a highly competitive game that finished with Hall's Hail Mary touchdown pass to Bryan Kehl as time expired to give Team Navy a 31-27 victory over Team Royal. Kehl also returns to play this year, hoping to create some more magic for Team Navy.
