Hall named to the Davey O’Brien Award QB Class of 2022
FORT WORTH, Texas — BYU quarterback Jaren Hall has been named to the official Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2022, making him eligible to be considered as one of the 16 semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.
Voting for the semifinalists will take place on the @DaveyOBrien Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts through Nov. 11, with the 16 semifinalists named on Nov. 15. The top five vote getters on each of the three social media platforms will receive bonus votes which will be added to the ballots cast by the National Selection Committee.
The Davey O’Brien Award is presented annually to the best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The award honors candidates who exemplify Davey O’Brien’s enduring character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both academics and athletics.
Through nine games in 2022, Hall has completed 189 of 288 passes for 2,245 yards and 21 touchdowns. Nationally, he is ranked No. 12 in passing TDs, 17th in passing yards and 20th in points responsible for with 134.
In addition to the Davey O’Brien Award, Hall was previously named a candidate for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Maxwell Award, Manning Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year Award and the CFPA National Performer of the Year Award. In addition, he was named to the Pro Football Network Top 100 College Football Players list and is on the watch list for Senior Bowl.
As a sophomore in 2021, Hall was named Pro Football Network All-Independent Quarterback of the Year and was named to the Phil Steele All-Independent First Team as well as the Pro Football Network All-Independent First Team.
In 1981, the Davey O’Brien Educational and Charitable Trust named Jim McMahon the first recipient of the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award. BYU quarterbacks have won the Award four times—second only to Oklahoma who has won five. In addition to Davey O’Brien Award winners McMahon (1981), Steve Young (1983) and Ty Detmer (1990 and 1991), Robbie Bosco finished runner-up in 1984 and Steve Sarkisian finished third in 1996.
The three finalists for the Davey O’Brien Award will be announced on Nov. 29. The 2022 Davey O’Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on Dec. 8, during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
