NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Walter Camp Football Foundation today named BYU quarterback Jaren Hall as one of 50 players on the Preseason Watch List for the 2022 Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, the nation’s fourth-oldest individual college football accolade.

Hall, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound junior is one of 19 quarterbacks on the prestigious watchlist that includes 42 offensive players along with eight from the defensive side of the ball. Hall is also a 2022 watch list candidate for the Davey O’Brien Award and the Maxwell Award.

Despite missing three games due to injury in 2021, Hall completed 189 of 296 passes for 2,583 yards and 20 touchdowns, while compiling an efficiency rating of 156.1. He also had 62 caries for 307 yards (4.9 per carry) and three rushing touchdowns, while leading No. 19 ranked BYU to eight wins in 10 starts during the 2021 season.

At the conclusion of the 2021 season, Hall was named Pro Football Network All-Independent Quarterback of the Year and was named to the Phil Steele All-Independent First Team as well as the Pro Football Network All-Independent First Team. In addition, Hall was recognized by College Sports Madness as Independent Offensive Player of the Week twice during the season and was on the Davey O’Brien Award Midseason Watch List.

Former Michigan State and current Seattle Seahawk rookie running back Kenneth Walker III was the 2021 Walter Camp Player of Year.

The 2022 Walter Camp watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in mid-November.  The 2022 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 130 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced on Dec. 8, during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.

The winner will receive the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award at the Foundation’s 55th annual national awards banquet in New Haven, Conn in early 2023.
