Allgeier represents BYU at 2022 NFL Combine

Former BYU All-American Tyler Allgeier was among three dozen running backs invited to participate in the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine this week at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis. 

Among the running back invitees, Allgeier has received the 12th-best prospect grade, a 6.12, which is an evaluation for a good NFL backup with potential to develop into a starter. Known as a well-built, highly productive ball carrier with impressive vision and feel as a runner, Allgeier, after the top three prospects, is considered among the next group of running backs in the mix to watch in the draft after emerging as one of the most productive players in the country the past two seasons.

In Allgeier's first season at running back in 2020, he ranking seventh in the FBS with 7.53 yards per carry, totaling 1,130 yards and tying for 10th nationally with 13 rushing touchdowns while also contributing as a receiver with 174 yards. He improved on those numbers in 2021, ranking fourth in the nation with a BYU single-season record 1,601 rushing yards while carrying a large load for the Cougars with 276 carries. He found the end zone with regularity, tying for the national lead with 23 rushing touchdowns, while also adding 199 yards as a receiver. 

At the NFL Combine on Thursday, Allgeier's measurements came in reflecting his rugged size at 5-foot-11, 224 pounds with 31 1/2-inch arms and 9 5/8-inch hands. He ran a 4.6-second 40-yard dash on Friday while recording a 33-inch vertical leap and a 120-inch broad jump.

NFL scouts and team personnel will also come to Provo on March 25 to continue their evaluations of Allgeier and other BYU players when they conduct combine drills and position workouts at BYU's annual NFL Pro Day. Allgeier will be joined by other NFL prospects from last year's BYU team, including center James Empey, receivers Neil Pau'u and Samson Nacua, and defensive lineman Uriah Leiataua.

This year's NFL hopefuls look to add to the growing list of BYU players earning opportunities in the NFL. Last year quarterback Zach Wilson was chosen with the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft and offensive tackle Brady Christensen was a third-round selection among five BYU draft picks and eight other Cougars receiving free-agent agreements.
