After landing in Shreveport, the team was greeted by officials and committee members from the Independence Bowl along with a warm welcome from locals at the team hotel. Following some media interviews, the Cougars attended a welcome party for both players and staff.

The players' welcome party included both teams with some of the nation's best barbecue chef's catering the event. BYU and UAB took part in friendly competitions to kick off the week.

The team's coaches and staff also attended additional welcome events at Independence Stadium.

Always a bowl-week favorite, following both events the team enjoyed the opening of the hospitality suite, a room to relax and enjoy snacks and games with family members and teammates.

BYU will hit the practice field on Wednesday and select players will attend a charity event at a children's hospital and then participate in additional team activities later in the day.

The Cougars and UAB will play Saturday, Dec. 18 in the Independence Bowl at 2:30 p.m. CST. The game will be televised nationally on ABC.
