Barrington brothers, Jakob Robinson earn All-America honors

PROVO, Utah — BYU offensive guard Clark Barrington was named to the Action Network All-America Second Team on Wednesday, while his younger brother and fellow offensive lineman Campbell Barrington and defensive back Jakob Robinson both received Freshman All-America accolades from The Athletic

Clark Barrington, a 6-foot-6, 302-pound redshirt sophomore, gives BYU an All-American offensive lineman for the second-straight season, following 2020 Consensus All-America Brady Christensen who was a third-round NFL draft pick to the Carolina Panthers. Barrington started every game at left guard, joining left tackle Blake Freeland as the only two lineman to start every game due to injuries. Notwithstanding, BYU's offensive front earned 2021 Joe Moore Award Midseason Watch List recognition as a unit while helping the Cougars rank No. 17 in the nation in total offense at 457.1 yards per game.  Barrington was a Pro Football Focus Freshman All-America honorable mention honoree in 2019 and earned Phil Steele All-Independent Second Team recognitions during the 2020 COVID-19 season.

Campbell Barrington and Robinson were both named to The Athletic Freshman All-America Second Team, with Robinson being one of 22 defensive players honored on the first and second teams while Barrington was one of 24 offensive players honored on the two teams. This is Campbell Barrington's second Freshman All-America citation since the regular season concluded, having previously been recognized by the Maxwell Football Club, where he was one of only 11 offensive players named to the prestigious team.

Campbell Barrington, a 6-6, 285-pound freshman from Spokane, Washington, started six games for BYU on the offensive line after playing a reserve role earlier in the season and dealing with injuries late in the year. Campbell joins his brother Clark and other offensive linemen helping BYU running back and Doak Walker Award semifinalist Tyler Allgeier rush for a FBS leading 20 touchdowns and 1,409 yards (No. 8 nationally). Campbell was also on the watch list for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, presented annually by the Maxwell Football Club to the outstanding freshman in college football.

Robinson, a 5-11, 165-pound defensive back out of Orem High School, is tied for No. 1 nationally in interceptions by a freshman with three, which leads BYU along with fellow safety Malik Moore. Robinson, who transferred from Utah State after playing in four games during 2020, has played nickel and safety for the Cougars in 2021 while contributing in all 12 games with five starts in the last seven games. He and Moore both rank 33rd nationally among all players in interceptions to help BYU's defense rank 21st in total interceptions while the Cougars as a team rank No. 10 nationally in turnover margin. Robinson's is tied for second on the team with four pass breakups while his 24 solo tackles ranks fourth this season.

The Barringtons and Robinson have helped BYU achieve a 10-2 regular-season record in 2021 to receive No. 12/14 rankings in the national polls and a No. 13 CFP ranking. The season featured a 5-0 record against Pac-12 schools, including a 26-17 victory over conference champion Utah along with wins over then-nationally ranked Arizona State, Arizona, USC and Washington State. Among its 10 victories, the Cougars also defeated Mountain West Conference champion Utah State as well as bowl-bound ACC foe Virginia.

BYU will face UAB in the 45th Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl on Dec. 18 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
