PROVO, Utah – BYU head coach Kalani Sitake today announced offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia has signed with BYU and will join the Cougar football program in January.

A transfer from the University of Oregon, Suamataia is a 6-foot-6, 317-pound freshman who was a five-star recruit out of nearby Orem High School prior to going to Oregon as part of the Ducks’ 2021 signing class.

“Kingsley is a very talented football player from a great family,” Sitake said. “We are excited to welcome him back home as a member of our BYU football family.”

Suamataia was among the nation’s most heralded high school prospects in the 2021 recruiting class, being rated a consensus top-40 player by both Rivals (No. 23) and 247Sports (No. 36). By position, Rivals (No. 5), 247Sports (No. 6) and ESPN (No. 11) rated Suamataia as one of the 11-best offensive tackles in the country.

A team captain who made 52 career starts at Orem High School, Suamataia helped the Tigers win four consecutive state championships (2017-20) while achieving a 42-10 record, including a 16-0 resume in the playoffs. He joins several former Orem High teammates at BYU, including receiver Puka Nacua, offensive lineman Hunter Hill, defensive backs Jakob Robinson and Ethan Slade and defensive lineman Joshua Singh.

The top-ranked recruit coming out of the state of Utah, Suamataia received scholarship offers coming out of high school from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah and USC, among others.

Suamataia, who played in one game for Oregon this season, will be a redshirt freshman in 2022 with four years of eligibility remaining.
