Allgeier named Independent Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness
PROVO, Utah — BYU running back Tyler Allgeier has been named the Independent Offensive Player of the Week for week five of the 2021 season by College Sports Madness.
Allgeier led BYU to a 34-20 win at Utah State on Oct. 1 at Maverick Stadium in Logan. The sophomore carried the ball 22 times for 218 yards and three touchdowns against the Aggies. He also caught three passes for 23 yards.
Allgeier was also listed No. 5 on ESPN College Football Analyst Kirk Herbstreit's top performances for week. Allgeier's 218-yard performance is the 8th-most rushing yards in a single game in BYU history. He also set new person best in rushing yards and touchdowns.
Through five games in 2021, Allgeier has 102 carries for 564 yards and is in the top 10 in the nation in both categories. He has also caught seven passes for 43 yards and has scored seven touchdowns to lead BYU to a No. 10 ranking in both the AP and Coaches Polls.
Allgeier is on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, Doak Walker Award, Paul Hornung Award and the CFPA National Performer of the Year. In 2020, he was No. 8 nationally with 1,130 rushing yards and was No. 4 in yards per carry at 7.53
