Augusta, Ga. — The Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award announced today that BYU punter Ryan Rehkow has been named one of Ray’s 8 for week five of the season. Ray’s 8 honorees are now eligible to be named Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week, which will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. ET.

The Ray Guy Punter of the Week Award has a fan voting component. Cougar Nation can visit the Ray Guy Award website and VOTE REHKOW for punter of the week.

Rehkow is currently fourth in the NCAA in punting average at 50.6 yards per kick. He played an important role in flipping the field in the second half in BYU’s 34-20 win at Utah State on Friday. Rehkow had four punts for 187 yards for an average of 46.8 yards per kick. Two punts were downed inside the 20, while the other two were fielded at the 20-yard line. BYU is now 5-0 on the season and ranked No. 10 in the USA Today/AFCA poll.

Ray’s 8 week five honorees include, Ryan Rehkow (BYU), Nik Constantinou (Texas A&M), Trenton Gill (NC State), Kyle Greenwell (UAB), Tommy Heatherly (FIU), Brad Robbins (Michigan), Jordy Sandy (TCU) and Jordan Stout (Penn State).

The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thompson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team’s success.
