BYU football enters national rankings

PROVO, Utah — After opening the season with a 55-3 victory at Navy in week one, BYU football entered the national rankings Sunday at No. 21 in The Associated Press Top 25 and No. 22 in the Amway Coaches Poll. Sunday's polls are the first weekly regular-season rankings released for the 2020 season. 

The last time BYU was ranked in the top 25 was during the 2018 season when the Cougars were ranked as high as No. 20 after starting the season 3-1 with a victories over Arizona on the road and No. 6 Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium. 

BYU's win on Labor Day over the Midshipmen featured the most points scored in a season-opener under Kalani Sitake and the most points in an opener overall since the Cougars scored 70 against Tulane in 2001. 

With BYU's scheduled game with No. 22/25 Army on Sept. 19 being postponed to a to-be-determined date, the Cougars will host Troy in their next matchup on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 8:15 p.m. MDT in LaVell Edwards Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
