BYU accepts invitation to SoFi Hawai’i Bowl

PROVO, Utah — Brigham Young University officially accepted an invitation today to play in the SoFi Hawai’i Bowl at Aloha Stadium on Tuesday, Dec. 24 at 3 p.m. HT (6 p.m. MT) on ESPN. 

The Cougars will face a team from either the American Athletic Conference or the Mountain West. The game marks the 18th edition of the Hawai’i Bowl, which was first played on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2002. 

“We are excited to be playing in the SoFi Hawai’i Bowl,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “I’m really happy for our football team and impressed with how hard they worked to have this opportunity. BYU has a long history and tradition of playing football in Hawai’i and we are looking forward to playing in Aloha Stadium once again.”

The Hawai’i Bowl will be the Cougars 37th bowl game dating back to the 1974 Fiesta Bowl. The 37 games consist of 19 different bowls in 11 states, including the 1992 Aloha Bowl versus Kansas on Christmas Day in Honolulu. Previously, BYU has made 22 appearances in the Islands since its first game against the University of Hawai’i in Honolulu on Dec. 10, 1930.
