Empey and Oldroyd named CoSIDA Academic All-District
GREENWOOD, Ind. (Nov. 14, 2019) – BYU football players James Empey and Jake Oldroyd were named to the 2019 Academic All-District Football Team, selected by CoSIDA.
The Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a starter or significant contributor and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA.
Empey, a finance major with a 3.83 GPA, has started every game the past two seasons at center on the offensive line. Oldroyd, planning to major in business with a 3.86 GPA, has been the Cougars’ primary placekicker and punter in 2019. He is currently tied for No. 18 nationally in field goals made per game (1.6) and No. 27 in punting average (44.1).
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
