Matt Bushman named John Mackey Tight End of the Week
NEW YORK – BYU junior Matt Bushman was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week on Tuesday.
A Mackey Award watch list honoree, the Arizona product had a career performance in BYU’s 28-25 upset win over No. 14 Boise State this past Saturday. He posted five receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns, setting career bests for receiving yards and touchdowns in a game.
His first score came on a fourth down where the Cougars faked a QB sneak and Bushman slipped past the defense for a 27-yard touchdown over the middle. His second score came on a reverse flea-flicker where he was wide open down the sideline for a 39-yard score, tying his career long reception.
The 2017 freshman All-American leads BYU with 28 receptions, 398 yards and three touchdowns in 2019. He has 106 receptions, 1,429 yards and eight scores in his career.
The 2019 John Mackey Award recipient will be announced on Dec. 11 and then presented live on Dec. 12 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
