PROVO, Utah (Sept. 16, 2019) – Three BYU football players, along with offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes received weekly awards and honors for their respective performances in the Cougars’ 30-27 overtime win over No. 24 USC last week.

Grimes was named the Athlon Sports Coordinator of the Week on the offensive side. BYU outgained the USC air-raid passing offense with 299 passing yards to go along with 131 rushing yards to beat the Trojans.

Dayan Ghanwoloku, a senior defensive back, did a little bit of everything to earn a spot on the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for the week. The Paul Hornung Award, given to college football’s most versatile player, recognized Ghanwoloku for his nine tackles, one interception and 1-yard touchdown run. Ghanwoloku was also named the College Sports Madness defensive player of the week for the independent teams.

Defensive lineman Lorenzo Fauatea was named to the Pro Football Focus National Team of the Week. Fauatea graded out high, posting three tackles, one sack and one forced fumble while constantly putting pressure on USC’s quarterback.

Kicker and punter Jake Oldroyd was selected as a Lou Groza Star of the Week after making three of four field goals, including what ended up being the game-winning 43-yarder in overtime, tying a career long. Oldroyd is tied for the FBS lead with eight field goals this season.

The redshirt freshman also had a day punting the football, averaging 48.2 yards per boot, dropping two inside the 20 and tied a career-long with a 56 yarder. He has had at least one 50-yard punt in each of the first three games in 2019. Oldroyd is No. 4 nationally averaging 49.2 yards per punt.
