LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation announced BYU assistant head coach, special teams coordinator and linebacker coach Ed Lamb as a nominee for the 2018 Broyles Award recognizing college football’s top assistant coach.

The 53 nominees in this year’s class were selected from approximately 1,500 assistant coaches representing 130 Division I programs across the country. The Broyles Award selection process includes the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), a college football hall-of-fame selection committee and current college head coaches.

Lamb is in his third year as the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator and his first year overseeing the linebackers at BYU. Under his direction, BYU’s special teams unit is ranked No. 8 nationally in special teams efficiency by ESPN.com. The Cougars are allowing only 3.9 yards per punt return, tied for No. 14 nationally, and are one of just 15 teams to not allow a kick return of 30 yards or more this season. On defense, BYU is ranked No. 26 in total defense at 334.1 yards per game.

A 19-member selection committee of distinguished former head coaches, along with a committee representing the FWAA, will select 15 semifinalists and five finalists from the list of nominees and an overall winner. Those finalists will be invited to travel to Little Rock, Ark., where the 2018 Broyles Award winner will be announced on Tuesday, December 4, at the Marriott Hotel.

This year marks the third time the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation has presented the award. Proceeds from the 2018 Broyles Award support the mission of the Broyles Foundation; to provide education, support, and resources to Alzheimer's caregivers.
