Bernard to redshirt 2017 football season

PROVO, Utah — BYU linebacker Francis Bernard will redshirt the 2017 football season. Bernard, who is using his redshirt season for personal reasons, will be a junior for the Cougars when he returns to the field in 2018.

As a redshirt, the 6-foot-1, 240-pound outside linebacker will continue to participate in all team practices, meetings and activities during the upcoming season.

Last year as a sophomore, Bernard started at linebacker after seeing time at running back his freshman season in 2015.
