PROVO, Utah (May 25, 2017) — Broadcast plans and game time for the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff featuring BYU and LSU on Sept. 2 were announced Thursday.

The Cougar and Tigers will kickoff at 8:30pm CT (7:30pm MT) on ESPN from NRG Stadium—home of the Houston Texans of the National Football League. The nationally featured game will mark the first meeting between the two schools.

The 2017 AdvoCare Texas Kickoff is the fifth year of an eight-year agreement between Lone Star Sports & Entertainment and ESPN Events to bring a top-tier college football game to NRG Stadium to open the college football season.

NRG Stadium, with a seating capacity of 71,054, opened in August 2002 and was the first facility in the NFL to have a retractable roof. BYU played a regular season game at NRG in 2013, defeating the University of Houston 47-46.

LSU is the fourth SEC team to be on BYU’s schedule since going independent in 2011. The Cougars defeated Ole Miss 14-13 in 2011, lost to Missouri 20-16 in 2015 and defeated Mississippi State 28-21 in double-overtime in 2016. The Cougars will also face Mississippi State later in the season on Oct. 14 in Starkville, Miss. BYU has an overall record of 6-5 versus current SEC programs.

In addition to NRG Stadium, the Cougars have played in numerous NFL stadiums over the years such as Cowboys Stadium, FedEx Field, Arrowhead Stadium, University of Phoenix Stadium, Louisiana Superdome, Qualcomm Stadium, Alltell Stadium, Pontiac Silverdome, The Meadowlands, Veterans Stadium, Orange Bowl, Anaheim Stadium and others.

Ticket for the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff are on sale now at BYUtickets.com or by calling 801-422-2981.
