Seaver named Independent Video Coordinator of Year and Bob Matey Award finalist

PROVO, Utah — The Collegiate Sports Video Association has named BYU’s Errol Seaver the 2016-2017 Independent Video Coordinator of the Year and a finalist for the prestigious Bob Matey Award, which annually recognizes the national video coordinator of the year.

Seaver, who serves as the Director of Football Video and Technology for the BYU football program, was selected by a majority vote of his peers in the CSVA to receive the Independent Coordinator of the Year honor.

“It’s an honor to be chosen—this is truly a group effort by our video staff and I consider myself fortunate to work alongside outstanding individuals,” Seaver said.  “Anytime your program is recognized for the work they put in it is a great thing.  I am honored to receive the award on behalf of my staff and BYU.”

Seaver is one of 16 national finalists under consideration for the 2017 Bob Matey Award, which will be announced at the annual CSVA banquet on May 18th, 2017 in Atlanta. The Bob Matey Award is presented to the Video Coordinator who displays innovation, determination, perseverance and technical skill as portrayed by the late Bob Matey, legendary Video Coordinator from Texas A&M.

Seaver is in his fourth season with the Cougars. He came to Brigham Young from the University of South Alabama where he worked for three seasons as the Director of Football Video, overseeing all video responsibilities for the Jaguars’ young football program. Tasked with building a video department from scratch, he built South’s video department into one of the top in the Sun Belt Conference. Prior to that, he spent time at the Big 12 Conference office, Jacksonville State University and Lenoir-Rhyne College.

At BYU, Seaver oversees all technology needs for the football program. Along with a staff of nine students, Seaver’s responsibilities include filming and editing all practices and games, breaking down opponent and NFL film, creating and managing content for digital signage used throughout the football offices as well as social media, managing the 48 client in-house video network and over 160 iPads used by coaches and players.

“I want to thank my wife, Lindsey, and my family for their support and Coach Sitake for his continued support of our vision and efforts,” Seaver added.

During his time in Provo, Seaver has streamlined the filming and editing process for the football program. By initiating further strategic installation and use of the fiber optic infrastructure throughout LaVell Edwards Stadium, his staff is able to provide coaches and players game film within minutes following the completion of games. Seaver has also worked alongside mobile device leader Apple to collaborate and share ways in which to improve and increase the use of mobile devices within college athletics.

Seaver serves as Secretary of the Collegiate Sports Video Association and was previously selected as the Sun Belt Conference Video Coordinator of the Year in 2013-2014 while at South Alabama.

A native of Hickory, North Carolina, Seaver and his wife, Lindsey, reside in Springville, Utah.
