PROVO, Utah - BYU football continued its prep for the 2017 season with its second day of spring practice on Wednesday.

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

In the team portion at the end of practice, Squally Canada had a long run up the middle early on as the running backs got a lot of work. A few players, including defensive back Matt Hadley, are getting looks at the running back position during spring.

Another position swap from defense to offense included Grant Jones. As a wide receiver, Jones got loose behind the defense and quarterback Beau Hoge found him for a long gain down the sideline.

Linebacker Francis Bernard picked up a fumble for a likely scoop and score but a whistle ended the play early.

BYU continues spring football this week with another practice Friday.

Quotes from senior Matt Hadley

On who inspires him as a running back:
Whenever I wasn't doing homework or working on the farm, I spent the rest of my time watching highlights of LaDainian Tomlinson and Frank Gore. Those were the two guys that I tried to mimic 100 percent. Their running styles were like art for me.

On why the coaches wanted him there:
I think to provide depth. I think to get a look at everyone. Coach Sitake does a really, really good job looking at players and seeing their strengths and trying them out at different spots to see if he does better there. In my case he noticed maybe I would be better running the ball. When he says that to people its not to take away from what they are doing. Not necessarily that they aren't good at that position but lets just try you at this.
