BYU and Virginia announce football series changes, additional game

BYU and Virginia today announced changes to their future football series. The game between the Cougars and Cavaliers originally scheduled for 2019 in Charlottesville has been moved to 2021 and will be played in Provo. The 2023 game originally scheduled for Provo will now be played in Charlottesville.

The two universities added an additional date to their agreement and will face off in Provo in 2025.

BYU and Virginia have met in football five times with the Cavaliers holding a 3-2 advantage in the series. Virginia defeated BYU 22-16 in the first meeting at the 1987 All-American Bowl in Birmingham, Alabama. The teams split a two-game series in 1999 and 2000, with UVA winning at BYU 45-40 in 1999 and the Cougars defeating the Cavaliers 38-35 the following season in Charlottesville. The most recent games came during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. UVA won 19-16 in 2013 in Scott Stadium, while the Cougars defeated the Cavaliers 41-33 at LaVell Edwards Stadium in 2014.
