Brigham Young University and Southern Utah University today announced the schools have finalized an agreement to play a football game at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah, on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016.

“We needed a home game to finalize our 2016 schedule and SUU had an opening. It turned out to be a good fit for both schools,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “We look forward to hosting the Thunderbirds next year in Provo.”

The BYU at Cincinnati game, originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, has been moved to November 5.

BYU and SUU have never met in football. The Thunderbirds are members of the Big Sky Conference and compete in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision. They are currently ranked No. 24 in the FCS Coaches Poll Top 25.

BYU played its first season of intercollegiate football in 1922. Over the past 40 seasons, the Cougars have appeared in 33 bowl games, won 23 conference championships and are No. 5 in total wins among all FBS programs since 1975. Under head coach Bronco Mendenhall, BYU has been ranked in the Top 25 during nine of the past 11 seasons, while appearing in 10 straight bowl games.

The broadcast plans and kickoff time will be announced at a later date. For more information on BYU football, visit BYUcougars.com.
