PROVO, Utah — BYU moved up two spots in the national rankings released Sunday, receiving a No. 18 ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 and a No. 19 placement in the USA Today Amway Coaches Poll.

After a bye this past week, the Cougars enter this week's action with a 4-0 record, the program's best start since 2008 and only the eighth time in school history BYU has opened the year with four straight wins. BYU has achieved home wins over Virginia (41-33) and Houston (33-25) after starting the year with road victories over Connecticut (35-10) and Texas (41-7).

BYU has been ranked for four consecutive weeks in the AP poll and moved up from No. 20 to No. 18 in this week’s rankings. The Cougars are ranked for the third straight week in the Amway Coaches Poll, jumping from No. 21 to No. 19 this week. BYU has received a national ranking during eight of 10 seasons under head coach Bronco Mendenhall.

Florida State again tops the AP poll but fell to No. 2 in the Amway Coaches rankings.  Oregon, Alabama, Oklahoma and Auburn keep their respective spots in this week's AP top five. The Coaches gave Alabama the top spot ahead of Florida State while Oklahoma, Oregon and Auburn kept their rankings rounding out the top five.

The Cougars also moved up in the ESPN Power Rankings this week. The Cougars climbed one position to No. 16 in the rankings voted on by a 13-member ESPN panel. The ESPN voters kept Oklahoma in the top spot this week with Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Texas A&M all maintaining their previous ratings in the top five.

BYU returns to action this week when it hosts Utah State in a featured Friday night matchup. ESPN will televise the in-state rivalry between the Cougars and Aggies to a national audience at 8:15 p.m. MT.
