BYU, UMass announce football series

PROVO, Utah — Brigham Young University and the University of Massachusetts today announced the schools have agreed to a four-game football series beginning in 2016.
The Cougars and Minutemen are scheduled to meet at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo on Oct. 8, 2016 and Nov. 18, 2017. Games three and four of the series are scheduled for Nov. 10, 2018 and Nov. 23, 2019 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
UMass competes in the Atlantic 10 for all sports but football. Currently a football member of the Mid-American Conference, the Minutemen will join the likes of BYU, Notre Dame and Army as an independent football program in 2016.
“With UMass joining BYU as an independent football program in 2016 this series makes a lot of sense for both schools,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “It will be a great experience for our team to play at Gillette Stadium—home of the New England Patriots —in front of the BYU faithful in that part of the country.”
The first game in the series in 2016 marks the inaugural meeting between the two schools in football. Kickoff times and broadcast plans for the series will be announced at a later date.
