PROVO, Utah - BYU football held another practice in full pads on Tuesday morning at the SAB Fields.

After warmups, the team went through position drills, a couple 11-on-11 periods and ended with a skelly red zone segment.

Both the offense and the defense created major plays during the 11-on-11 practice. Quarterback Taysom Hill found his 6-foot-6 receiver Mitch Mathews on a play action pass that was good for about 30 yards. On the very same drive, senior defensive back Jordan Johnson broke up a jump ball in the end zone against Mathews to end the drive.

Newcomer Harvey Langi, a sophomore linebacker, made two big stops at the goal line to prevent the offense from scoring. Redshirt freshman Jordan Preator and sophomore Michael Davis intercepted passes. Freshman receiver Trey Dye caught a touchdown pass from senior quarterback Christian Stewart. Sophomore running back Algernon Brown also scored a touchdown off a short pass from Hill. After securing the ball, he made a defender miss and ran the length of the field to score.

The Cougars travel to Connecticut for their first matchup of the season on Aug. 29.

Bronco Mendenhall Quotes

"I said after the scrimmage (Saturday) that the offense won the day, but if they did it was barely. It was pretty close."

"In 11-on-11 today, defense was very strong. Once we went to pass skelly, offense looked very strong. So it was really our first blue zone focus day. A lot of work to do on 11-on-11 offensively. Pass defense secondary-wise needs a lot of work."

"There's not many evaluations that need to be made that haven't been made already. So it (Friday's scrimmage) will be just one more chance to see guys play without the coaches standing right behind them telling them what to do. It will be more of an assignment and readiness check than ability."
