The award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end. Mahina is one of 38 players named to this year’s watch list.

A product of Ontario, California, Mahina enters his final season with 26 career receptions for 310 receiving yards and two touchdowns.  The 6-foot-6, 247-pound senior also received 2014 Phil Steele Preseason All-Independent Second Team honors.

The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The recipient will be announced Dec. 10, 2014. The award will be presented live on Dec. 11, 2014 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
