PROVO, Utah — BYU head football coach Bronco Mendenhall today announced the signing of defensive back Harvey Jackson from the University of Nebraska.

Jackson has signed a scholarship agreement with the Cougars and will join the team this summer for the 2014 season. He will have one year of eligibility to play for BYU after completing his bachelor’s degree at Nebraska this spring.

"Harvey is an experienced player and a mature individual with excellent character," Mendenhall said. “He will join our program after graduating in construction management with a business minor. He is a great fit for BYU on and off the field."

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound safety was one of four safeties to see extensive playing time for Nebraska during the 2013 season. Overall, Jackson played in double-digit games each of the past three seasons for the Cornhuskers with 35 total games played and four starts. He made 33 tackles in 10 games as a junior, including three starts, while totaling 54 tackles overall in his three seasons on the field. He redshirted his first season in 2010.

While at Nebraska, Jackson proved a strong student, receiving both Academic All-Big Ten and Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll accolades.

A native of Fresno, Texas, Jackson starred at Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas, where he was ranked among the nation’s top 30 safety prospects and the top 300 overall players in the nation by Scout.com.
