PROVO, Utah—BYU football conducted its 10th spring practice session on Tuesday night in advance of Saturday’s team scrimmage.

“I think this team wants to win even more than what we’ve done before and they are working like it, and that is really fun,” BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall said. “Our coaches are invigorated and our players are practicing at a really high level. We have tons of momentum in terms of not only what we are getting done but also how we are doing it. I like our program a lot right now, and I like our players.”

The BYU offense scored two touchdowns during the team session conducted on the outdoor practice field. Taysom Hill ran 10 yards into the end zone for the first score during 11-on-11 work. Running back Nate Carter took a handoff from Christian Stewart and ran it seven yards for the second touchdown to end practice. Carter also got in some good work with several carries during second-team play.

“The base (offense) is the same, but we’ve added new intricacies and we’ve made our offense a little harder to defend,” Hill said of the team’s offensive approach. “We’ve added quite a bit of motion to our offense, and it just makes it harder on the defense.”

Other highlights of practice included Terenn Houk’s 45-yard reception from Hill and Josh Carter’s interception of Stewart.

The team has one more practice prior to the annual spring scrimmage at LaVell Edwards Stadium. The scrimmage, which begins at 11 a.m. MDT, is open to the public and free of charge. Stadium gates will open at 9:30 a.m. and the event will conclude around noon.

A football clinic for kids will also take place Saturday at the stadium prior to the scrimmage. The 40-minute clinic begins at 10 a.m. and will be conducted by players on the team for schoolchildren up to the eighth grade.

The team will conduct 15 practices in all during spring, with the final session taking place on Friday, April 4.
