PROVO, Utah - The BYU football team completed its first of two practices on Friday morning as the team continues to prepare for the upcoming 2013 season.

"We had a modified format today," head coach Bronco Mendenhall said. "We're trying to recover our team for one more scrimmage of fall camp tomorrow. We'll welcome Thursday's Heroes and make it a special event for them to watch, with a little Thursday's Heroes reunion happening after that. Camp continues, just a lot of work."

Players participated in individual and team drills, focusing on technique and proper field positioning. The team also spent time doing strength and conditioning drills.

After practicing in shoulder pads, the team donned only helments for the final team portion of practice. The defense kept the offense out of the end zone, holding the offense to long field goals. Kickers Trevor Samson nailed a 33-yard field goal and Justin Sorensen hit two of three from 43 yards to end practice. Quarterback Ammon Olsen completed a 20-yard pass to wide receiver Skyler Ridley and quarterback Jason Munns hit tight end Stehly Reden for a 15 yard reception.

The Cougars will hold a second practice on Friday afternoon in preparation for a closed practice at LaVell Edwards Stadium Saturday morning.
