BYU, Fresno State announce two-game series
PROVO, Utah — Brigham Young University and Fresno State today announced the schools have agreed to a two-game football series for the 2015 and 2017 seasons.
The Cougars and Bulldogs will meet at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo on Nov. 21, 2015, with the second game being played at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno Calif. on Nov. 4, 2017.
“This is a great regional matchup for our football program,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “It’s been more than a decade since we played Fresno State. If tradition holds true, fans will be in for a high-scoring game featuring two former Western Athletic Conference foes.”
BYU and Fresno State have previously played nine times in football, including five meetings as members of the WAC from 1992-99. The first meeting was on Sept. 22, 1956 in Provo and the last meeting was held at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, Calif. on Oct. 3, 1998. Fresno State leads the overall series 5-4.
Fresno State was founded in 1911 and began playing football in 1921. The Bulldogs are members of the Mountain West Conference and have played in 24 bowl games.
BYU was founded in 1875 and played its first season of intercollegiate football in 1922. The Cougars are independent in football and have appeared in 30 bowl games. BYU has been ranked in the Top 25 during seven of eight seasons under head coach Bronco Mendenhall.
BYU football individual game tickets are now on sale and can be ordered online at BYUtickets.com or over the phone at 800-322-BYU1.
