Home Opener On Thursday
Former Major Leaguers Tony Gwynn and Vance Law square off as skippers of their respective teams when San Diego State starts BYU’s home baseball season Thursday night.
The two teams are scheduled for a three-game series beginning Thursday at 6 p.m., with BYU’s pitcher Taylor Cole (2-1, 1.91) scheduled to face Ethan Miller (2-2, 5.00). On Friday, also at 6 p.m., Cougar Chris Capper (0-2, 4.88) will go against Corey Black (0-1, 4.95). And on Saturday at 1 p.m., Matthew Neil (1-1, 2.45) takes the mound for BYU against Cole Swanson (0-1, 2.49).
Black is ranked 12th nationally in strikeouts averaging a dozen strikeouts per nine innings. SDSU brings a 6-15 overall record and a 2-1 Mountain West Conference record against BYU’s 10-10 overall and 1-2 MWC marks.
“This is a big series and home opener for us,” said Coach Vance Law. “We are looking forward to playing at home against an always talented and dangerous San Diego State squad. We hope to continue to get the effort we have had earlier this week and then I’ll be happy win or lose.”
The BYU-SDSU games will be broadcast live locally over radio 960 AM.
