Return to Pacific Northwest
A return to Washington finds BYU's baseball team taking a break from its conference schedule with games this weekend against Seattle University and the University of Portland.
The Seattle University Redhawks will host BYU, 18-20 overall, and Portland, starting first with the Cougars on Thursday.
Sophomore Matthew Neil (3-4, 5.74) will start for BYU in that Thursday afternoon game, followed by southpaw Mark Anderson (1-1, 5.93) on Friday afternoon against the Redhawks. On Saturday, BYU has an afternoon game in Seattle against No. 26 Portland with freshman Chris Capper (2-0, 5.25) taking the mound for the Cougars.
Among those to watch for the Cougars are Alex Wolfe and releif pitchers Kevin Sloan and David McKnight. Wolfe is the reigning Mountain West Conference player of the week. Sloan has a perfect 7-0 record in 17 appearances. McKnight leads the team with six saves and is a candidate for the NCAA Stopper of the Year Award.
Last month BYU split a two-game series in Eastern Washington against Gonzaga and played home games in Provo against Washington and Washington State. BYU returns to MWC action next week at UNLV.
