Torgerson MWC Pitcher of Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BYU junior righthander Blake Torgerson and New Mexico junior Max Willett have been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.
Torgerson, a right-handed pitcher from Westminster, Calif., threw BYU’s first complete-game shutout since the 2007 season in the Cougars’ 7-0 win over Air Force last Friday.
Torgerson struck out two batters, while giving up two hits and walking just one in facing just 28 batters in his nine innings on the mound—one over the minimum. This marked the first two-hitter for a BYU pitcher since the 2006 season.
After giving up a single to start the game, Torgerson didn’t allow another hit until the sixth inning, as the Falcons batted just .074 for the contest.
Torgerson also stared one of BYU's two double plays in that game.
This is the first MWC pitcher or player of the week honor for BYU this season.
"He was pretty impressive in that outing," said BYU coach Vance Law.
