Wazzu Sweeps BYU

PULLMAN -- Washington State used a six-run sixth inning Tuesday to break BYU’s baseball team in a 13-4 victory and claim a two-game sweep.

For the first five innings BYU, now 18-12, kept pace with WSU, now 14-13. Overall in hits, BYU was close 12-14, but they weren’t as timely.

Steve Parker had a one-out single to score Sean McNaughton in the third, but Stetson Banks was thrown out at home on the relay from centerfield to tie the game one-all.

That was as close as BYU would get to the lead on Tuesday.

BYU looked as if it would mount rallies when Kasey Ko hit a solo homer to start out the fourth and close the gap to 5-2 favoring WSU.

Brandon Relf singled down the rightfield line to score Banks from second as the score narrowed to 5-3.

Thomas Bills knocked a solo homer in the eighth, but the score was out of reach, 13-4.

BYU now returns to league action when it hosts the Air Force Academy in a three-game series starting Thursday.
