No. 20 New Mexico Takes Series

ALBUQUERQUE -- First place New Mexico retained its league lead as it claimed a 9-5 come-from-behind victory Saturday over BYU’s baseball team.

The No. 20 Lobos, now 24-4 overall and 5-1 in the Mountain West Conference, overcame a 5-3 deficit. UNM took an 8-5 lead, scoring five runs on five hits as it drove BYU starter Adam Miller and reliever Justin Shutt off the mound in the seventh inning.

The Lobos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. BYU rallied to take the advantage in the third inning with four consecutive hits, starting with a Sean McNaughton double. McNaughton continued breaking out of his slump when he hit a 420-foot home run into the teeth of the wind in left-centerfield in the seventh.

BYU, now 15-10 and 5-4, takes a breather from MWC action with a three-game series starting Thursday at Western Carolina University.
