Rebels Come From Behind

Las Vegas (April 4, 2008)--A near reversal of game one brought a 10-9 victory Friday for UNLV's baseball team over BYU.

The Courgars, now 13-17 overall and 4-4 in the Mountain West Conference, led up until the bottom of the eighth inning. UNLV is also 4-4 and improved to 13-14 overall.

Home runs by Sean McNaughton and Dan Vargas gave BYU a 1-0 lead after the first inning. In the third BYU generated five runs to take a 7-3 lead. UNLV scored six runs in the eighth to seal the victory.

"The tables were turned tonight," said BYU coach Vance Law. "They scored a bunch of runs with two outs. We kicked the ball and haven't executed pitches out of the bullpen. No one feels worse than our pitchers. Those insurance runs in the eighth inning were huge for us, but they came to fight in the eighth. This was a game we let slip away.

The two teams conclude the three-game series in Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon in a game joined in progress by KSRR Radio (1400 AM) at 4 p.m. MDT, because of the General Conference by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
