Hosting Kansas State

For the first time in Provo, a team from the Big 12 Conference debuts in baseball when BYU hosts Kansas State in a two-game series which begins Tuesday night.

The Cougars, 7-10, hosts KSU, 7-9, at Larry H. Miller Field as both teams take a break from 0-3 starts in their respective conference seasons.

"It's not going to get any easier, we can't assume anything," said BYU coach Vance Law after his team dropped a three-game series last weekend at San Diego State to start league play. "It will be a rough home stand with Kansas State, Air Force and Oregon State all in a row, but we are more comfortable at home. We are excited about hosting these kind of teams."

Scheduled to start in the 6 p.m. game on Tuesday for BYU is righthander Nelson Castleberry (1-2, 8.15). Game time for Wednesday has been changed to noon, with lefthander Daniel Welch (0-0, 13.50) getting the nod on the hill for BYU.

The KSU series starts a home stand of seven consecutive games, something unheard of for March in Provo. BYU played eight in a row at home in May, 2006.

Following the KSU series, BYU hosts the Air Force Academy, 7-9 and 0-0 in the Mountain West Conference, on Thursday through Saturday. This Monday BYU hosts two-time defending NCAA Champion Oregon State in a two-game series.

All of the KSU, AFA and OSU games will be broadcast live locally on KSRR Radio (1400 AM).
